Mountain Bike Skills & Basic First Aid (Santa Cruz) In partnership with Backcountry Medical Guides (BMG)

Aug 15–16, 2026 | Sat – Sun 9:00 AM – 4:30 PM

Mountain bike coaching comes with real responsibility. This two-day course is designed specifically for coaches and anyone who want to ride better and be prepared when something goes wrong on the trail.

You don't have to be a coach to get something out of this weekend — you just have to love riding and want to be better at it.

This two-day course brings together TrailWorks' Brian Astell and the team at Backcountry Medical Guides (BMG) for a weekend that covers both sides of what every serious rider needs: the skills to ride with confidence, and the knowledge to handle whatever the trail throws at you.

In this course you will learn

Better rider. Better coach. Better prepared.

Day 1 — Ride Better Hit the trail with Brian Astell for a progressive skills clinic designed to break through plateaus and sharpen your fundamentals. Cornering, braking, body positioning, obstacle navigation, wheel lifts, and more — the building blocks that make every trail feel more manageable and every ride more fun. Whether you're coaching others or just want to ride your best, these are skills that translate to every trail, every ride.

Day 2 — Be Prepared BMG's instructors take over with hands-on first aid training built specifically for mountain biking. Not generic wilderness first aid — real scenarios, real emergencies, real trails. Because when something goes wrong out there, knowing what to do in the first critical minutes can make all the difference.

Two days. Two disciplines. One course for anyone who takes their riding seriously.
